Date: 16 Sep 2004 Communications In the case of an emergency, we will communicate with you through a variety of means.  They include radio and TV stations throughout the Metro Atlanta area, the main Georgia Tech home page (www.gatech.edu); a recorded line at the Georgia Tech Police Department (404.894.0500); the main campus phone line (404.894.2000); the Georgia Tech Cable Network (GTCN), and WREK Radio Station (91.1 FM). We will use the building coordinators for every campus building as our central contact points. For a complete listing, please see Appendix Q of the Emergency Action Plan at http://www.police.gatech.edu//homeland/eap.doc. If we were to make an announcement, it would either be CLASSES CANCELED or CAMPUS CLOSED. When the CLASSES CANCELED condition is in effect, all classes and instructional laboratories are canceled. Students and instructional faculty are not to report to campus; other support employees may also be instructed not to report to work at the discretion of the administrator responsible for each major division. Administrative and research activities not directly tied to the instruction function will generally continue as normal. When a CAMPUS CLOSED condition is in effect, no employees are to report to work, except those previously designated as "emergency essential" by their department. Students in residence halls should review emergency information on the Department of Housing Web site at http://www.housing.gatech.edu/policies/reslife_security-alert- policy.cfm. General Preparations The National Weather Service, ( http://www.nws.noaa.gov/ ) is a good source of current weather information.  Another site for information about current storms is the Hurricane Intercept Research Team web site ( http://www.hurricanetrack.com ). This site gives you the latest storm location information, distance from your city, current satellite and aircraft imagery, and strike probabilities.  Bob Harty Executive Director Institute Communications & Public Affairs
